The raid
The people of the far-flung settlements scattered across the immense white plain of Lapland live by and for their herds of reindeer. The reindeer provide their whole subsistence, and to guard and increase the herd is the entire business of their days. This story of life among the Lapps in the years after WWII opens with the arrival of a stranger at a winter cabin.
